Weyerhaeuser Initiates Groundbreaking in Golden Isles, GA

The Golden Isles Development Authority (GIDA) announced the groundbreaking of Weyerhaeuser Company. GIDA has been working with both the County and the timberland company to coordinate the purchase of approx. 3.2 acres. Weyerhaeuser has hired Culbertson Contracting to construct a building of approx. 7,860 sq. ft. to support their Southeast Regional Timberlands as well as the Atlantic Region management office. This facility will house approx. 25 full-time employees with an average salary of approximately $80,000.

This project has had a lot of moving parts, and it couldn’t have been possible without the excellent partnership between GIDA and the County. GIDA purchased the property from the County, and GIDA sold the property to Weyerhaeuser. The County was able to expedite the rezoning of the property as well as the sale of the property. This entire process, from property purchase to site plan approval, was completed within 9 months.

Weyerhaeuser Company is an American timberland company that owns nearly 12,400,000 acres of timberlands in the U.S., and manages an additional 14,000,000 acres of timberlands under long-term licenses in Canada. The company also manufactures wood products. It operates as a real estate investment trust.
