PRESS RELEASE: 1st Annual Industry Appreciation Dinner

Glynn County, Georgia – The Golden Isles Development Authority (GIDA) held their 1st Annual Industry Appreciation Dinner this month at Silver Bluff Brewing to celebrate and recognize the local industries operating in the Glynn County area. Leaders from the City and County governance and nearly 100 community members enjoyed catering by Mr. Shuck’s Seafood as they took their seats at the event to show their support.

The Golden Isles has a long history of attracting and growing companies that make great things. This history dates to the early twentieth century, when Brunswick had become a hub of activity for shipbuilding and the development of the U.S. Navy blimp base “Glynco”. Today, our manufacturing firms vary in the products and customers they serve; from equipment for National Defense contractors, craft beverages to organic skincare products, great things continue to be created in the Golden Isles. And while technology has changed the modern manufacturing landscape, our roots run deep in the innovation and grit essential in building today’s world-class products.

To honor these companies who have made great impacts in the Golden Isles, the GIDA presented annual awards during the Industry Appreciation Dinner to the ones who have shown profound growth, ingenuity, and leadership in our community. The presented awards and award recipients are as follows: 2022 Manufacturer of the Year: Haven Manufacturing; 2022 Innovation Excellence Award: MAP International; 2022 The Dave Smith Award was presented to Mr. Jack Hartman for his outstanding and dedicated service to the Golden Isles Development Authority.

The Golden Isles is a community where the leadership and residents recognize the importance of the manufacturing sector, and it is the focus of the GIDA’s attraction, retention, and expansion efforts. Our local manufacturers employ a total of 1,875 individuals, and in this past year, have had an impact on our community of over $49M in total sales/output. Some of the greatest ad valorem tax paying entities in Glynn County are the industrial facilities. Since manufacturing is a capital-intensive activity, industrial property generally represents more value to the tax digest than other uses. Industrial acreage accounted for only 2.4% of the total acreage in Glynn County but accounted for 11.7% of the total digest value.

Manufacturers diversify the local economy, build community wealth, and create good jobs for people with a wide range of skills. They are essential engines to our local economy, and we appreciate them for choosing the Golden Isles as the location to invest and grow in their respective businesses.

The GIDA thanks Georgia Power, OMEGA Construction, Gilbert & Harrell, Synovus Bank, and Thomas & Hutton for sponsoring the event and for being a part of recognizing our local industries.
