King & Prince Seafood teamed up with Georgia Tech Professional Education to host much needed course on front-line problem solving for the area’s manufacturers.
Engaging supervisors and operators in problem solving is a big challenge most manufacturing companies face on a daily basis. The
Very well attended and a huge success
- 28 attendees from seven companies from Brunswick and the surrounding counties
- Hosted by a local manufacturer – King & Prince Seafood
- Taught by Georgia Manufacturing Extension Partnership at Georgia Tech
- Speakers were Larry Alford and Ben Cheeks; both from Georgia Tech
- Discussion on front-line problem solving, obstacles to problem solving, and how managers and supervisors can work together to remove obstacles
Real world insights + collaboration
What makes this training unique is that the attendees are a split between front-line supervisors and their managers. Many of the obstacles to solving problems in an organization are structural and the manager and supervisor will need to work together to remove them. This event creates forum where these issues can be discussed in a collaborative learning environment.
“One of the best things about working at Georgia Tech is that I get to spend time with a lot of great people who share my passion for improving manufacturing. The group was very engaged and we had a lot of in depth discussion.” – Ben Cheeks
More great events to come
There’s something about going on location to another business and sharing ideas with other professionals who have the exact same challenges that makes a training event so much more relevant and worthwhile.
If you’re a manufacturer and are interested in hosting a similar event in the future, let us know. You can pick the topic and send up to 6 people. You would also need to provide meeting space for up to 30 people and a quick plant tour is also recommended. The most requested topics have been visual management, Kaizen events, and effective job training.
