Glynn County has a long history of service to the aviation community, dating from the opening of its first airport on St. Simons Island in 1938. The U.S. Navy occupied and operated both county airport facilities in WorldWar II, and left the valuable gift of an 8,000 foot runway in Brunswick, rendering the facility capable of handling virtually any aircraft in operation today.
